Community cornerstone Club Taree has been awarded $200,000 through the Infrastructure Grants Program, heralding an upgrading of its life-saving evacuation facilities.

Club Taree is one of three organisations in the Myall Lakes region to receive a share in the August round of the Clubgrants Category 3 fund, putting up $355,124.

The Club’s grant will directly benefit the locals when natural events cause calamity.

“Club Taree plays a vital role in supporting the community during challenging times, as seen during the Black Summer fires and floods,” offered Nationals Member for Myall Lakes, Tanya Thompson.

“The funds will play a crucial role in constructing specialised facilities designed for use during emergency evacuations. This includes the development of disabled bathroom facilities, a family room, and a first aid room – elements that are essential during times of crisis.”

Club Taree has proven itself a pillar of the region, last year awarded Winner of the RSL & Services Clubs Spirit of Anzac Awards.

It regularly holds events to foster engagement, such as the International Women’s Day luncheon coming up on 8 March, and the gala dinner to be held in July to celebrate the 10th Anniversary of “le Tour de Taree”.

As a focal point for Taree residents during times of crisis, the upgraded facilities will help provide a “more dignified and comfortable” experience for those affected.

Thanking Thompson for her backing in the application and Minister Harris for the approval, Club Taree CEO Paul Allan says the government show of support will help them help more.

“Our team, along with the endless community volunteers, work hard to offer care and support to those seeking respite during disasters and their job is made easier and less stressful by having access to facilities such as those that this funding will build.”
