The Albanese Labor Government has issued policies set to bolster hospitality through measures to address hurdles for young workers entering the industry.
The announcement heralded support for key urgent recommendations out of the strategic review of the Australian Apprenticeship Incentive System, and for addressing ongoing cost-of-living pressures for apprentices.
Clubs Australia has welcomed the decision and says it will continue to advocate for policies supporting growth and sustainability in the club industry.
“Chefs and cooks are in short supply in the hospitality industry, so any opportunity to encourage more people to take on an apprenticeship at a club is welcome news,” said Clubs Australia executive director Rebecca Riant.
“Increasing the Living Away From Home Allowance so that apprentices can meet the costs associated with moving to take up an apprenticeship will be particularly beneficial for clubs in regional areas.”
The Government has committed to:
- Maintain the 2025 Priority List and extend current Australian Apprentice Training Support and Priority Hiring Incentive payment settings by six months, until 31 December 2025
- From 1 July 2025 – increase the Living Away From Home Allowance
- From 1 July 2025 – increase the Disability Australian Apprentice Wage Support payment, supporting employers taking on apprentices with a disability
