Alt. Hospitality Group is full steam ahead at Georges River Sailing Club, modernising and bringing “a sense of mediterranean” to the shores of Botany Bay.

The Sailing Club (GRSC) is located on the sandy banks of Elephant Back Beach, bestowed with picturesque views toward Towra Point and Woolooware Bay.

Alt. Hospitality Group (AHG) began as the Illawarra Catholic Club in 1962. Since then it has adopted a new moniker and grown from a south-Sydney social hub to count venues spanning the metropolitan area, including Club Central Hurstville and Club Central Menai, and Hotel Mountain Heritage.

The current GRSC amenity is showing its age, and AHG wanted to improve the customer experience on arrival, posing a more ‘Mediterranean’ look and feel. It also wanted to reconfigure the internal layout to both better utilise existing space and take greater advantage of the water views.

This significant renewal involves external works, bringing a new entrance and balcony. Inside there will be a new restaurant and bar, redesigned gaming lounge and expanded kitchen, and the function space will be relocated to improve the view.

Loucas Architects was commissioned for the design, Evolve Constructions on the build, and Empire Project Management engaged for planning, development, construction management and handover.

“The sailing club is extremely popular and busy amongst the local community therefore the requirement is for construction to be managed in stages to ensure the venue is kept online for patrons,” says a spokesperson for Empire.

AHG offers it has an ‘alternative’ view on hospitality, aiming to defy expectations and make each experience ‘beyond the usual’.

“From elevated club experiences to boutique mountain stays, you’ll find a little ‘Wow!’ at every turn,” says the Group.

Total cost of the makeover works is specified as $7-8 million. Completion is slated for August 2025.
