Australian women’s sport has seen a groundbreaking development, with an innovative pay and profit share deal that boosts the case for club investment in new and existing programs.

The new three-year Collective Player Agreement (CPA) between Netball Australia and the Australian Diamonds secures a forty per cent pay increase, and introduces a revenue-sharing model that allows players to get a slice from events, broadcasts and sponsorships.

The deal underscores the growing recognition of female athletes, making it a strong example for clubs to draw on when advocating for better recognition and support for their female athletes.

This historic first for Australian women’s team sports provides actionable takeaways for clubs in a few ways.

The win can be leveraged with local councils and sponsors to highlight the importance of investing in women’s sport.

Building on this, showcasing achievements of a club’s own female members can also both attract sponsorships and create community support.

The growing recognition can also be used to justify investment in women’s programs, such as expanding training and competitions, and in development opportunities.

Ultimately, the agreement sets a new benchmark that clubs can harness to drive meaningful change for women in sport at all levels, ensuring stronger communities and greater long-term growth.
