The epochal Georges River Sailing Club has officially reopened following a $12 million redevelopment by Alt. Hospitality Group, revealing a “spectacular new era” for the near-centenarian.

Founded in 1927, the GRSC is one of Botany Bay’s most iconic waterfront venues, on the sandy banks of Elephant Back Beach with views toward Towra Point and Woolooware Bay, and only 20 minutes from Sydney Airport.

Ahead of its centenary in 2027, the club adopted a vision to create a venue that was both modern and classic, authentic and community-focused while also destination-worthy.

“This transformation is about creating a venue that’s proudly local, but also about creating spaces where people can enjoy themselves, experience something different, and leave with memories that last,” said Chris White, Interim CEO of Alt. Hospitality Group.

As it prepares to mark the milestone, the mission shaped the redevelopment designed by Loucas Architects, constructed by Evolve Constructions, with interiors styled by Hale & Co and coordination by Empire Project Management.

“With the sparkle of Botany Bay as our backdrop, we’ve created a place where people can gather every day of the week, from family dinners to cocktails at sunset or milestone celebrations,” furthers White.

“It’s premium without being pretentious, and we’re proud to deliver a space the whole community can enjoy.”

The reopening introduces new Mediterranean-inspired restaurant Porta Dining, with a warm coastal-inspired interior and sweeping views of Dolls Point Beach and Botany Bay, plus an exclusive cocktail collaboration with acclaimed mixologists Maybe Sammy.

A renovated Sports Bar & Lounge provides a state-of-the-art big screen for live sport, and casual dining, flowing into the main dining areas.

A reimagined events floor brings enhanced function spaces with capacity for 220 guests, available for weddings, milestone celebrations and corporate events.

The entertainment line-up will include live music and DJs every weekend, as well as bespoke seasonal celebrations, such as Christmas Day, New Year’s Eve, Easter and Mother’s Day. And a new central staircase and lift have upgraded accessibility for all.

Alt. Hospitality Group (AHG) began in 1962 as Illawarra Catholic Club. In six-plus decades it has grown to become one of southern Sydney’s leading operators, boasting a diverse portfolio of clubs, hotels, event centres and dining venues across the city and Blue Mountains, which also includes Club Central Hurstville and Club Central Menai.

AHG cites its values in supporting local causes, championing both grassroots sport and cultural initiatives, as well as investing in the development of hospitality talent, through clear career pathways and professional growth programs. The latest development, requiring a team of additional staff, achieves both objectives.

“Georges River Sailing Club has been part of the community for nearly 100 years, and this investment secures its future as a vibrant hub for dining, celebration and connection,” concludes White.
