Sydney Portugal Community Club (SPCC) in the inner west suburb of Marrickville is the newest festival destination in the area following the Inner West Council’s approval allowing the club to hold large-scale outdoor events.
The club will now be able to hold five large-scale events each year, with up to 5,000 attendees per event.
It will also be able to hold ten events of up to 3,500 attendees each year. Any of these events can include an outdoor stage as well as food and bar pop-ups.
SPCC is ideally located within walking distance of public transport.
Darcy Byrne, Inner West Mayor, said the approval would mean attracting more people from across Sydney to live entertainment as well as cultural events.
“We’re determined to keep building the Inner West as the heart and soul of Sydney’s live music and entertainment scene.
“Now, the Portugal Community Club will be an exciting part of that future.
“This Club is a treasured institution in Marrickville that celebrates the richness of Portuguese culture, food and sport. With this approval they can now share that with a much wider audience and continue to make Marrickville one of Australia’s most diverse and vibrant suburbs,” Byrne stated.
Paul Goncalves, director of SPCC, said the approval means the club can now hold events that will become high points of Marrickville’s “vibrant cultural life” for many years.
“We want to support live music and performances and contribute to Marrickville’s unique and diverse community.
“We have a great relationship with Council and Mayor Byrne and thank them for their ongoing support of our club, our community and Inner West artists and venues,” said Goncalves.

Founded in 1961 by Portuguese migrants, the community club has evolved into one of the most prominent Portuguese clubs in Sydney.
SPCC is 100 per cent member owned, offering an authentic taste of Portugal in its restaurant and bar as well as offering community connection through the Fraser Park Football Club and through regular events.
