The esteemed Campbelltown Catholic Club (CCC) has announced its approved plans for a Seniors Living development, as the latest project toward a strategic agenda to diversify revenue streams.

The Club has received Development Approval (DA) for the Siquilla Retirement Residences to be built on the corner of Camden Road and Old Menangle Road, right next door to the Club.

Ninety-two retirement dwellings will accompany a diverse range of common facilities and landscaped communal offerings.

Set in the heart of Campbelltown city, around 53 kilometres southwest of Sydney’s CBD, the plan brings the principles of ‘positive ageing’ and ‘ageing in place’ as well as a community approach to living in a home that will provide future residents with a unique lifestyle. The club offers that it “will be a place where the over 60’s in our community will be able to thrive”.

Building on CCC’s history of continuous improvement, the Residences will complement existing assets.

“The exciting part is, we already have historic properties on the site,” says CEO Michael Lavorato.

Quondong Cottage opened St Patrick’s Day 1840 as St Patrick’s School. It remained a school for 75 years before becoming a private residence for nearly a century. Having fallen into disrepair, it was purchased by the Club and restoration began in 1996. Since 1997 it has been the Campbelltown Visitor Information Centre.

“Council uses Quandong as part of the Club’s community contribution,” explains Lavorato.

The Club also purchased other nearby landmarks, notably the old Fisher’s Ghost Restaurant, and the heritage significant Emily Cottage, built c.1823, making it one of the oldest buildings in Campbelltown.

The development project incorporates renewal of Emily Cottage, which will restored with help from Urbis Heritage as a unique communal space for Siquilla residents.

“Our village will be bookended by two historic properties,” furthers Lavorato.

“It is part of the DA to restore Emily, which may become a library. The residents will have exclusive use of it.”

The CCC has taken on partners for the delivery of the new residences. Studio.SC will construct the design by NewScape Design. Studio.SC director Doug Southwell says the project forms “part of a long-term masterplan commitment” that will complement the Club and surrounding attractions, such as the Exhibition Centre.

The CCC has a solid history of engagement, seeing it become a finalist for both its work with Macarthur based clubs and the team at Heart of the Nation, and for its corporate partnership with Escabags, a charity that provides essential ‘Escape Bags’ for victims and survivors of domestic and family abuse, at the 2024 Clubs and Community Awards.

“This will be a landmark project – supported by a bold vision to build upon the vibrant and connected wellbeing and lifestyle precinct we have right here in the heart of Campbelltown, elevating the experience of our members, future residents and servicing the broader community.”
