Sydney institution City Tatts has declared a victory in plans approved for a $762 million hotel and residential ‘Airspace’ development above the Club.

The Central City Planning Committee approved the plans on 11 November, with construction due to commence in the new year.

The new development will take up to four years to complete and will include a 101-room hotel and 241 luxury apartments.

The 126-year-old Club will be upgraded to include new shops, bars and restaurants, a wellness centre, event spaces, and a co-working club.

The project is backed by a consortium led by Singapore-listed First Sponsor Group and Melbourne-based developer ICD Property, with plans for the development stretching back to 2013 when the club first proposed an upgrade of its two interconnected heritage buildings.

These plans included a residential and hotel tower; plans that were later rejected by the NSW Land and Environment Court in 2017 on heritage grounds.

The Australian Financial Review reports off-the-plan sales of the new residences will kick off in the second quarter of 2022.
