Lismore City Bowling Club has revived the town’s markets, which were brought to a sudden halt in the wake of the 2022 floods.
After successful market days in June and July, August saw the Sunday Bowlo Markets officially opened in a ribbon-cutting ceremony by Lismore Mayor Steve Kreig and Member for Lismore Janelle Saffin, along with the club’s five life members, aged in their 80s and 90s.

The monthly markets were brought back to life to fill the gap left by the car boot markets, which had been held at the Lismore Square Shopping Centre car park.
Club manager Sharon Pepper and a colleague came up with the idea, and set aside a designated green for the day.
Now, only three months in, stallholders have grown from twenty-five to over forty, with August welcoming a large crowd.
Addressing the ceremony, Mayor Steve Krieg said the return of the markets was highly desired by locals and he was pleased the development application had been successful. He thanked the club for stepping up.
Club volunteers ran the barbecue and ensured the day ran smoothly, while local musicians entertained the crowds.
Going forward, Lismore City Bowling Club will hold the markets on the third Sunday of each month.
