A man who allegedly attempted to burn employees and a club in central New South Wales over the weekend has appeared before court facing multiple charges.

According to reports, local man 28-year-old Aiden William Wilson came to Peak Hill Ex-Services & Citizens Club on Sunday afternoon around 5.39pm.

He was refused entry by a male employee, and responded by “maliciously” throwing petrol on the 55-year-old man. Documents tendered to court say he also poured fuel on the carpet of the venue, and intimidated a 50-year-old woman, also dousing her with the flammable liquid.

Approximately 5.45pm he was chased from the venue, and the club, near Dubbo, was evacuated as a precaution.

Emergency services were called, and officers from Central West Police District attended.

The man and woman were assessed by paramedics, but reportedly did not require treatment.

Wilson was arrested a short time later on nearby Mingelo St. He was transported to Parkes police station and charged with six offences: two counts of stalk and intimidation, possession of an explosive with intention to destroy property, lay down explosive with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, destroy and damage property and failure to leave premises when required.

On Tuesday he appeared in Dubbo Local Court via audiovisual link from Bathurst Correctional Centre. Wilson was not required to enter a plea at his brief appearance, and he made no application for bail.

He will remain behind bars on remand until next due to appear in court, on 5 December.

No motive for the alleged attack has been offered.

Peak Hill Ex-Services & Citizens Club remains closed following the incident.
