The RSL & Services Clubs Association in NSW has announced its 2025 Respect the Day campaign, bringing together clubs around the state to encourage all Australians to honour the true meaning of Anzac Day, 25 April.

Respect the Day aims to remind patrons to pause, reflect, and show respect and recognition for the sacrifices made by generations of Australian servicemen and women – both throughout Anzac Day and in the lead up to the day – through the ongoing theme “Their Spirit Lives on in You”.

Originally an initiative by Bathurst RSL Club in 2019 to address antisocial behaviour, particularly amongst younger revellers, the Association expanded the concept, developing collateral and resources for member clubs across NSW.

This year’s campaign focuses on educating young people and newer citizens about the significance of Anzac Day and the freedoms Australians enjoy because of those who have served, past and present.

“Anzac Day is a sacred day in our national calendar,” says Margot Smith, CEO of the RSL-SCA, which continues to coordinate the annual campaign.

“It’s not just about remembrance; it’s about honouring values like mateship, courage, and community.”

The Association believe that a unified message strengthens awareness and understanding of the occasion’s importance, helping ANZAC Day remain a solemn and respectful occasion, and more than just a public holiday.

Clubs of all types are influential in their communities, via their member networks, and dozens of member RSL and Services Clubs across the state are taking part, rolling out the “Their Spirit Lives on in You” theme and its components.

“Clubs – both RSL & Services and non-RSL – can play a vital role in continuing the Respect the Day initiative by acting as community hubs for education, remembrance, and reflection, to remain meaningful for future generations in their local communities,” says Association director Brad Smith.

In the lead-up to Anzac Day, signage, social media, newsletters and events will also feature the four sub-themes: Celebrate Our Freedoms, Remember Their Sacrifice, Honour Our Traditions and Look After Your Mates.

Each message aims to inspire respectful behaviour and community spirit, both inside and outside of clubs.

“We’re proud to have more than 50 clubs officially registered to Respect the Day in 2025, and we hope that number continues to grow,” furthers Smith.

The Respect the Day campaign will be supported by local radio and newspapers and on social media. Clubs are provided a free toolkit containing posters, messaging and digital assets to help them promote the concept to members and guests.
