The man, 53-year-old former MMA fighter ‘Hacksaw’ Darren John Berry, was also discovered at the scene with critical wounds to his arms. He was airlifted to Westmead Hospital after being treated by paramedics.

While the pair were known to have had an off-and-on relationship, there was no known history of domestic violence.

Berry was charged with murder last week and formally refused bail.

Nepean Police Area Command continue to investigate, along with detectives from the State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad.

Police request that anyone with information contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

The Accor-run hotel and Penrith Panthers have declined to comment.
