Wests Group has unveiled its multi-million-dollar investment in south-west Sydney with launch of The Sherwood, Leumeah.

The Sherwood is a pub-style venue on the site of the former Wests Tennis Club, beside “the beating heart” of live sport, Campbelltown Sports Stadium.

The new venue is billed as an immersive sport viewing and open-air dining destination, providing a growth region with a package not traditionally offered by club operators.

It has a variety of foodservice, family and sports gathering spaces, featuring a large courtyard with lush greenery, alfresco dining, and live entertainment year-round, aided by an enormous 4.5 by 2.5-metre outdoor screen, for optimum sports viewing.

Embracing nostalgia, the venue’s food experience is reminiscent of an old-school milk bar, with a dedicated menu section for hand-smashed burgers. Share-style dishes also feature prominently.

Dishes are complemented by a large cocktail menu that borrows from familiar flavours, and a wide selection of tap beers including rotating taps dedicated to partnerships with local brewers.

The design is the work of Curtin Architects and Redwah Design Studio, creating a multi-seasonal element celebrating the great outdoors. Finishes are a combination of premium textures including marble, stone and timber joinery, with gold highlights, delivered in a classic ‘retro’ style.

This is the latest addition to the portfolio of Wests Group Macarthur, which already operates Wests League Club Campbelltown, Country Club Gledswood Hills and Lakeside Golf Club Camden, and is reportedly a “new milestone direction” for the group.

Wests’ commitment to the region inspired maps of Campbelltown on the carpet, and on a large steel panel on the side of the building.

The name ‘The Sherwood’ is a nod to the history of Campbelltown inspired by the former suburb Sherwood Hills. This connection is furthered by a custom mural of Robin Hood in Sherwood Forest, by artist Joe Quilter.

Wests CEO Daniel Perkiss says the Sherwood team, led by venue manager Julia Maulguet, has achieved their goal for a tavern-style venue, with an open plan feel.

“The Sherwood is bringing the local community a new style of venue to create a world-class sports and entertainment precinct right in our own backyard.”
