Sydney’s iconic City Tattersalls Club is the new home for IHG Hotels & Resorts’ Hotel Indigo Sydney Centre.

Scheduled to open in 2025, Hotel Indigo Sydney Centre will rise above the club’s premises in Pitt St, in Sydney’s CBD, in a new 49-storey mixed-use tower that will include restaurants, an event space, plus an exclusive City-based business lounge, retail, health and wellbeing facilities, along with a 110-room hotel and 246 residential apartments.

IHG Hotels & Resorts said that the history of the club will influence every aspect of the hotel offering including its design, food and beverage and services across the hotel’s café, bar and gym.

Guests at the hotel will also benefit from access to the facilities within the broader development, including meeting and event spaces and the exclusive lounge.

There’s something wonderful that happens when great brands come together, so it’s an honour for IHG to partner with one of Sydney’s oldest and most beloved business and sporting clubs to bring another amazing Hotel Indigo to Australasia.

Hotel Indigo Sydney Centre will enjoy a prime location with Pitt Street frontage, moments away from Pitt Street Mall and the city’s premier shopping, food and entertainment precincts.

“There’s something wonderful that happens when great brands come together, so it’s an honour for IHG to partner with one of Sydney’s oldest and most beloved business and sporting clubs to bring another amazing Hotel Indigo to Australasia,” said Abhijay Sandilya, IHG’s Vice President, Development – Australasia, Japan & Pacific.

“It’s clear that our boutique neighbourhood brand has truly resonated with guests and owners, and I’m looking forward to seeing how City Tattersalls club’s rich history plays into the neighbourhood story to create a spectacular hotel.

City Tattersalls CEO Marcelo Veloz

“With a perfect location in the very heart of Sydney and the development’s fantastic facilities, Hotel Indigo Sydney Centre will undoubtedly become a favourite destination for business and leisure guests alike.”

City Tatts is one of Sydney’s oldest community clubs and has a rich 125-year history and the hotel operator said that makes it the perfect location and inspiration for Hotel Indigo’s neighbourhood story concept – which includes design, food and beverage and service offerings.

Founded by 25 bookmakers in May 1895 to rival the establishment Tattersalls Club, City Tatts now has more than 20,000 members.

City Tattersalls CEO Marcelo Veloz said the club needed a brand that would do justice to the history of the City Tattersalls Club legacy after the board’s decision to open a hotel as part of its redevelopment plan.

“It would need the power of a global system behind it as travel ramps up again in 2021,” he said. “After months of assessing hotel brands, we resolved that Hotel Indigo was the perfect brand for our club and the CBD and we look forward to developing a successful partnership with IHG in the years ahead.”

IHG has 56 hotels operating under four brands in Australasia, including InterContinental, Crowne Plaza and Holiday Inn.
