NSW Health Minister Brad Hazzard has amended Public Health Orders to allow nightclub patrons to stand while drinking.

The amendment to the Order reads: “The object of this Order is … to remove the requirement for occupiers of nightclubs or strip clubs in the general area not to allow persons to consume alcohol in an indoor area unless they are seated.”

This change to the rules represents a fast tracking of freedoms that were originally slated to be reinstated as of 1 December.

This means fully vaccinated nightclub patrons are now allowed to dance and drink standing up indoors and outdoors.

This comes as the state reaches a full vaccination rate of 90.4 per cent for people aged over 16.
