Doyalson-Wyee RSL – more often known as The Doylo – has announced its official amalgamation with Northmead Bowling, Recreation & Sporting Club, known as NBC Sports, effective this month.
“We are excited to welcome NBC Sports club into The Doylo family,” says CEO Darren Thornton.
NBC is a cherished institution of the Northmead community, providing a community space for bowlers and social gatherings.
Talks of the amalgamation came mid-2024, when after nearly five months of discussions a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed, being the first formal step toward the goal of a merger.
After thorough due diligence, involving discussions between the Boards and management, a decision to proceed saw the Boards agree to sign. Both parties report being excited about the opportunities, in both business and community growth, with NBC Sports GM Peter Swaby offering that the merger is “the right fit” for their lofty goals.
“As a club, we were looking to secure our longer-term success and deliver bigger plans than our financials allowed, and that is why joining with DLG presents us with so much more opportunity to grow our business, our people, and further develop community life and spirit.”
The strategic partnership marks a new chapter for both clubs, enhancing member benefits and securing a sustainable future for NBC, and the clubs will work together to ensure a smooth transition, prioritising open communication with members.
Doylo was established in 1964, and is practised at outside-the-square initiatives, such as its 2024 move to deliver a major waste reduction through the installation of a return and earn station, and its ambitious 20-year redevelopment plans announced in 2022 for housing, childcare, medical facilities, a service station, hotel and recreational facilities, and the revamped RSL, on a 45-Ha site at Doyalson.
