Bowls Australia rolls out support program

Australian Bowls Clubs are about to enjoy further support for staff and volunteers though a new agreement with CLUBMAP.

CLUBMAP “offers education, support and direction for all levels of community sport” and has become the Preferred Club Development Supplier for Bowls Australia.

CLUBMAP undertakes a diverse range of projects for state and local sporting bodies and government authorities across all levels throughout Australia. A key feature of these projects is integration with multiple specialist support providers.

Through the arrangement with Bowls Australia, this program will provide a number of supports, including ‘health checks’ and ‘to-do lists’ for clubs; supporting Bowls Australia in providing a centralised resource portal, and in providing online support and community-building.

The key support, however, is the delivery of free monthly webinars aimed at both paid and volunteer club administrators.

These webinars, jointly developed with CLUBMAP and Bowls Australia, are specific to the bowls community. While each topic is different, all will include interactive polls and be followed by an interactive Q&A session.

The first webinar, discussing Volunteers and Committee Structures, is to be held on 14 November with sessions at 7pm and 9:30pm AEDT. This webinar will cover ways to recruit and retain volunteers and to create a thriving and sustainable organisation into the future, and how to access government funding, as well as discussing features of a new committee structure designed to balance workloads.

The second webinar will focus on fundraising and new ways of creating revenue; discuss how to grow membership and sponsorship; online fundraising; and how to access resources such as grants.

The second webinar will be held on 12 December, again with two sessions held at 7pm and 9:30pm AEDT.

Matthew Kennedy, Chief Executive Officer of Bowls Australia, is happy about the immediate benefits this new approach will provide, pointing out that the predominantly volunteer workforce across over 1,800 bowls clubs is the lifeblood of the sport.

“The integration with CLUBMAP on a bowls-specific approach seeks to support and assist those who passionately administrate the sport, be it in a voluntary or paid capacity, as much as we possibly can via a new collaborative approach, and to provide every opportunity to all metropolitan and regional Bowls Clubs across all States and Territories to be the very best they can be.”

Further webinars will be announced later in the year, and the new resource portal will be announced in the coming months.
