Rocky Sports Club, Rockhampton amps up the fun again at this year’s Melbourne Cup, as punters and party-goers alike look forward to the return of the Hobby Horse Derby.

The Club is excited to present the third annual Hobby Horse Derby, a firm favourite from the previous two years’ celebrations.

While the Club’s Melbourne Cup festivities offer the usual array of a drink on arrival, a sit-down lunch, lucky door and best-dressed prizes, and of course sweeps, the highlight of the day will be the much-anticipated Hobby Horse Derby.

Jockeys and their hobby horses are required to not only race against their competitors but manoeuvre through an obstacle course, with challenges along the way. The final challenge is to finish off a cold beer.

The first to complete the course is named the annual winner, and presented with a trophy.

Punters will then cheer on their favourites on the Club’s mega-wall screen for the ‘race that stops a nation’, and there is access to the TAB.

Rocky Sport’ Club’s General Manager Jack Hughes, who will again commentate on the derby, expects this year’s event to be even bigger and better.

“We really enjoy delivering events with a difference that are both fun and memorable, the Hobby Horse Derby is certainly that and then some.”

Tickets for the Luncheon are $59 per person and can be purchased through Trybooking.com, on the club’s Facebook page, or in person at the Club.
