The enterprising Doyalson-Wyee RSL – aka Doylo – has inked the start of an amalgamation with Northmead Bowling, Recreation & Sporting Club, known as NBC Sports.

Doylo Lifestyle Group (DLG) and NBC Sports have announced the recent signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) toward the goal of a merger.

Nearly five months since discussions began, over the past eight weeks the MOU has been “rigorously considered”. After a thorough due diligence process and many positive discussions between the Boards and management, a decision to proceed sees the Boards enthusiastically agree to sign.

Both parties report they are excited about the opportunities, both in business and community growth.

The signing of the MOU is the first formal step in an amalgamation process, delivering the details of how the arrangement will work for both organisations.

An information evening was held for members on Tuesday (23 July) at NBC Sports Club, which a spokesperson for Doylo told ClubTIC met with a “very receptive and positive” crowd.

“They are really excited about partnering with us.”

NBC Sports GM Peter Swaby acknowledged DLG’s expertise in strategic, community and talent development and offered that the merger is “the right fit” for NBC and its own lofty plans.

“As a club, we were looking to secure our longer-term success and deliver bigger plans than our financials allowed, and that is why joining with DLG presents us with so much more opportunity to grow our business, our people, and further develop community life and spirit.”

Still at early stages in the lengthy amalgamation process, both clubs anticipate creating relevant spaces for members and developing the wider Northmead community.

“We can see real synergies in all aspects of our business and enormous potential in the NBC Sports Club,” adds DLG CEO Darren Thornton.

“They have been successful in the licensed club and lawn bowls space, but want to do so much more.

“We are excited to help them achieve their ‘so much more’, and provide a positive and lasting impact in the Northmead community.”

NBC Sports will hold a General Meeting on Tuesday, 13 August at 6:30pm, where members will vote on the Amalgamation. DLG members will be asked to vote on proceeding at a meeting to be scheduled for mid-August.

Serving the region since 1964, Doylo made the news earlier this year with delivery of major waste reduction through the installation of a return and earn station.

And in 2022 the club announced another step towards its ambitious 20 year redevelopment plans with approval of its proposal to rezone a 45-Ha site at Doyalson for housing, childcare, medical facilities, a service station, hotel and recreational facilities including a go-karting track and paintball, and the revamped RSL.

It’s thought Central Coast Council, which is still holding pending DAs, is somewhat under-resourced in its duties, but DLG reports the development is progressing, albeit slower than anticipated.
