The long-awaited Long Reef Surf Life Saving Club has officially opened, to serve the future as a sustainable family-friendly hub for the local community.

Designed by award-winning Sydney and South Coast-based practice Adriano Pupilli Architects, the new purpose-built facility includes a two-storey surf club with a gymnasium, first aid room, training rooms, function space and surf club storage, plus a public amenities block, café and community storage lockers.

Long Reef Surf Life Saving Club has been patrolling the popular northern Sydney beach, bracketed by an Aquatic Reserve golf course, a lagoon and wildlife refuge, since 1950.

“I said when the fences went up that I was sad to see the old buildings go, but it was well and truly past its used-by date. This new site is both spectacular and functional,” said Peter Kinsey, President of Long Reef SLSC.

Building of the new $10 million environmentally sympathetic facility commenced almost two years ago, and was made possible due to funding from local, state, and federal governments as well as the Club. It will help support the Club, community and beach goers.

“This facility will provide a welcoming centre of activity for the broader beach-loving community, and a long-term base for future generations of volunteer surf life savers to share their skills, conduct vital patrols and provide a safe beach environment for everyone to enjoy,” said Northern Beaches Mayor Michael Regan
