A year ago ClubTIC reported on the commencement of a $1.2 million upgrade of the Barwon Heads Bowling Club facilities.
Last Friday these works were officially completed as Barwon Heads Bowls Club President Lawrie Stent, along with members of the club, joined local, state, and federal government representatives in marking the next chapter of the club’s history with a formal opening.
The project was a joint funding effort, with the City of Greater Geelong matching the Australian Government’s contribution of $500,000, along with the Victorian Government’s contribution of $200,000.
Features of this project include an expanded social area, a commercial kitchen, a new office space, an outdoor undercover verandah and extended storage facilities.
As well as acknowledging the efforts of the former club president, Mr Stent said, “It’s a beautiful, new building and it really opens up a lot of avenues for the club socially and we are looking forward to welcoming the community to make use of it.”
Libby Coker, Federal Member for Corangamite acknowledged the club’s fifty year history, adding, “It signals a renewal of the club and sends a clear message – sports clubs are the lifeblood of our region, and our communities deserve modern facilities.”
