Northern Beaches Surf Clubs thrown 20-year lifeline

In recognition of the invaluable community service the clubs provide to the local area, Northern Beaches Council is working with 16 of the region’s local clubs to provide surety of tenure over the coming two decades.

The clubs in line for the extended leases are North Steyne, Queenscliff, Freshwater, South Curl Curl, North Curl Curl, Long Reef, Collaroy, South Narrabeen, North Narrabeen, Mona Vale, Newport, Warriewoo, Bungan Beach, Bilgola Beach, Whale Beach and North Palm Beach.

Five clubs servicing the Northern Beaches have not been included in the long-lease deal as they are already on long-term leases or located on private property with leaseholds managed by landowners.

The extension of Surf Life Saving Club leases, which will be backdated to 1 July 2022, is well supported following community consultation conducted earlier this year.

“Providing these clubs with security in relation to tenure over the coming 20 years allows them to plan for their ongoing, long-term operations and make capital investment in their surf life saving facilities,” said Mayor Michael Regan.

“Council values these services, and the great community interaction the clubs provide.”
