Western Australian sporting clubs seeking to improve healthy food choices can now apply for Healthway funding of up to $4,000.

Healthway’s Healthy Sporting Club Program is open for summer applications, with the goal to boost healthier food options for members at club-run canteens and kiosks.

The funding aims to reduce children’s exposure to unhealthy food marketing, increase access to healthy food and drink, and develop awareness around healthy eating choices.

WA Health Minister Roger Cook says, “Sporting clubs already provide pathways to healthy lifestyles through physical activity and the Healthy Sporting Club Program aims to inspire clubs to promote healthy eating habits.

“This program helps Western Australians get the nutrition they need to succeed in their chosen sport this summer.

“If you’re part of a sporting club that wants to create a healthier food environment for your members, I’d encourage you to apply for funding through the Healthy Sporting Club Program,” says Minister Cook.

Successful applicants will have the ability to upskill canteen staff and club volunteers through the Western Australian School Canteen Association’s Fuel to Go & Play accreditation program.

Applications are open until 12 noon, Friday September 24, 2021.
